Description
The Fabric & Design
A structured two-piece set in a deep burgundy, crafted from quality woven Aso oke fabric with strip-woven panels on the top made with Adire fabric — a quiet nod to the rich textile traditions of West Africa. The top features a fitted silhouette with a central front closure and a subtle peplum hem. The mini skirt sits high on the waist with clean, tailored seaming for a modern finish.
The inspiration
The weight of a Saturday morning, the warm grip of Ìyá sęwà’s thighs holding your head still, the sharp scent of Dax or Delmege Petals hair cream mingling with the faint musk of an over-worn wrapper. Every child of the neighbourhood knew Ìyá sęwà, the local hairdresser whose hands moved with quiet authority, braiding and weaving with a rhythm that was almost ceremonial.
This piece is a love letter to that memory.
The braided rope appliqués that travel across the bodice and spill onto the shoulders are not merely decoration, they are a reimagining of those plaits. Each braided fabric is hand-crafted in Adire print and arranged in an organic, living pattern that mirrors the movement of fingers through hair. The shoulder fringe echoes the loose ends of a fresh braid, still warm from her hands. To wear this piece is to carry that Saturday morning with you, elevated, honoured, transformed into art.
